Sports pioneer Nancy Lieberman comes to Holy Land
The Jerusalem Post/ By Allon Sinai
May 18, 2011
Sinai Says: Basketball legend uses the inspiration of her life story to present a detail-oriented path to success in different aspects of business and life.
The now 52-year-old American has pushed gender boundaries and smashed stereotypes for most of her adult life. As a basketball player in the 1970s and 1980s, she most famously became the first woman to play regular-season games in a US men's pro league (in 1986) as part of the Springfield Fame of the United States Basketball League.Read more >>

Nancy Lieberman will find quite a following waiting when she visits the Portland Expo this weekend.
If she can get a ticket to one of the Maine Red Claws games this weekend, Lisa Manning will be in the Portand Expo, watching the woman who is the head coach of the Texas Legends. At an appropriate moment, if there is one, Manning will approach Nancy Lieberman.
It will be one member of the Old Dominion University women's basketball family connecting with another. A Maine legend and forerunner greeting a national personality who has opened so many doors in basketball. Coaching young male professionals is just the latest. Read more >>

A new 'next game' for Hall of Fame basketball player Nancy Lieberman
LA Times / By David Wharton
January 11, 2011
Hall of Fame player Nancy Lieberman has traded her basketball sneakers for high heels, but she's no less determined as she coaches men in the NBA Development League.
Reporting from Frisco, Texas - Someone told the girl about Rucker Park in Harlem, told her that all the best players gathered there for pickup games.
Harlem was two train rides and a long walk from her neighborhood in Queens, but she had fallen in love with basketball - shooting hoops in the playground each afternoon until dark - and nothing could keep her from having a look. Read more >>

A Conversation With Nancy Lieberman
By faboverfifty.com
January 10, 2011
This November, Nancy Lieberman will become the first female head coach to lead a NBA-affiliated team: the Texas Legends, of the NBA's Developmental League. Really, it could not have been anyone else; after growing up in Queens in the sixties, Lieberman has always been at the forefront of women's basketball. At eighteen, she was the youngest basketball player in Olympic history, helping the U.S. earn silver at the 1976 Games in Montreal. She's a Hall of Famer, two-time Olympian, and was a three-time All-American at Old Dominion. She's been a WNBA coach and general manager, and twice set the record for oldest player in the WNBA. She's been a television broadcaster and president of the Women's Sports Foundations. She's a motivational speaker, and an author. She's a mother, a chef, and she's dogged about her skin care. Faboverfifty talked to her about basketball, gender roles, and what love means - among other things. Read more >>

Lieberman Is Back in Men's Game, in New Role
The New York Times Times / By Harvey Araton
December 23, 2010

photo taken by Brendan Sullivan/The Dallas Morning News
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Two and a half hours before tipoff, before a single fan had entered the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum and before she had donned her pink blouse, necklace and high heels, the player who once dared to dribble among men was making her case to be more than one of the guys.
"They need women in every aspect of life - why not as coach?" Nancy Lieberman said.
She had come to the arena early to retrieve practice shots for her 35-year-old star, Antonio Daniels. Then she moved on to one-up her coaching opponent, Joey Meyer, by reminding him of how his father - Ray, of DePaul prominence - had befriended her when they met years ago as members of a certain little fraternity called the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
